Tallahassee Real Estate and Housing Market
Tallahassee’s real-estate market benefits from an array of neighborhoods that offer numerous choices in home styles, prices and atmosphere. It’s no wonder then that residential areas pride themselves on their uniqueness and general appeal. For some, like Betton Woods and Lafayette Park, it is the close-in convenience and the charm of an older, more established area with architectural styles from Tallahassee’s earlier days.
In others, such as Piney-Z, Bull Run and SouthWood, newer construction gives residents a flavor of the latest home designs, materials and amenities. There are hundreds of neighborhoods, but knowing a few will allow you to get a feel for which ones suit you best and where your real-estate agent should concentrate your home search.
Over the years, home builders have branched out from Tallahassee’s older urban core to offer housing in various settings a short drive from downtown. A good example is Killearn Lakes in the unincorporated community of Bradfordville. There, you’ll find wooded home sites, lake-front properties, the golf course community Golden Eagle and three schools, plus ample shopping. The housing choices range from modest to magnificent.
Similarly, SouthWood continues to grow, getting a boost from the completion of the new headquarters for the Florida Department of Revenue and the soon-to-open 1st District Court of Appeal. The expanding workforce there has kept housing demand brisk and there is new commercial development along Capital Circle Southeast, including restaurants, banks, child-care providers and office buildings.
For many, however, nothing compares to the convenience of a home “in town” and its proximity to the universities, the Capitol, museums, theaters and many of Tallahassee’s employers.
