[more+]The opening reception for "Beautiful, I Am!" and "Naked Emotions Exposed will be Thursday, January 16, from 5 - 7 PM. Johnson will also be doing a book signing at the opening reception.
We are excited to present two new exhibitions by fine art photographer Stan J. Johnson at the Florida A&M University Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Gallery.
"Beautiful, I Am!" is a vibrant photography project that celebrates the self-esteem and inherent beauty of Black individuals. Through captivating portraits and personal narratives, this project aims to challenge societal perceptions and affirm the uniqueness of each subject. By highlighting their individuality and strength, "Beautiful, I Am!" seeks to empower participants, fostering a positive dialogue around self-acceptance and mental health within the Black community.
"Naked Emotions Exposed" is a powerful black-and-white photography project that vulnerably delves into the mental health struggles of Black individuals, illuminating the often-unseen emotional landscapes within this community. Through striking imagery, the project seeks to strip away societal masks, revealing the raw, unfiltered feelings that shape their experiences. Each photograph is a poignant exploration of resilience, pain, joy, and vulnerability, inviting viewers to confront and understand the complex tapestry of Black mental health with empathy and insight.
Admission is free and open to the public.
