Prisma Art Prize opens its 20th edition, continuing its mission as an international platform dedicated to painting and two-dimensional artistic research.

Based in Rome, the prize welcomes artists from all over the world and supports the many directions that contemporary painting can take today: from figurative to abstract, from intimate visual narratives to experimental approaches, from traditional techniques to hybrid forms of image-making.

The 20th edition will lead to the annual group exhibition at Palazzo Merulana, Rome, opening on 5 November 2026, in one of the city’s most significant cultural venues.

This summer we will get creative with forays into fantastical places! Each week-long session will focus on a new imaginary land and feature artmaking that takes inspiration from the stories, settings, and the characters within! From the depths of Atlantis and the heights of Mount Olympus our campers will explore a world of imagination! ​

Each day campers will take four art classes: drawing/painting, mixed media, 3D sculpture and ceramics. Through these classes campers learn about art from around the world, experience new artmaking approaches and techniques, and make a series of artworks to take home and enjoy at the end of each session.

Each Friday, the session will feature an Arty Party (12:45PM to 1:30PM). During the Arty Party, campers may invite their families into the studios to celebrate and view the artwork made during the session, and enjoy snacks, drinks, and fun!

Each day will include dance class, crafts, and games based on the theme. Camp Showcases will occur on the final day of camp during the pick-up period.

Ages are based on the camper's age at the time of the camp. Campers must be fully potty-trained.

Communications regarding drop-off and pick-up procedures and other important camp details will be provided via email following enrollment.

The full camp tuition will be posted and processed following enrollment. Enrollments or changes to current enrollment following May 20, 2026, are non-refundable. Transfers to an alternate camp schedule are subject to space at the time of the request.

From monster movies to dystopian adventures to suspense thrillers, our summer film camps give students the chance to create original movie projects in a fun, collaborative environment.

Campers may be divided into smaller production teams to focus on different scenes, roles, or creative elements, allowing everyone to contribute in meaningful ways both on screen and behind the scenes. Content is always age-appropriate, and any horror or suspense elements are thoughtfully adjusted to match the comfort level and maturity of each group.

Each Film Camp culminates in a premiere screening for friends and family. Films are presented as polished, fully realized projects and celebrated in a supportive, professional environment.

No prior film experience is required—just creativity, curiosity, and a love of storytelling!

SESSION 1 | June 1–12 | Mornings 8:45-12:30Classic Gothic Horror (1930s–40s)

Step into the shadows and explore the origins of cinematic and theatrical horror in this two-week camp inspired by classic gothic monsters and timeless storytelling. Campers will study atmosphere, character, and dramatic tension while bringing iconic villains and tragic heroes to life through film and musical theatre.

MONSTERS OF THE SILVER SCREEN draws inspiration from Dracula, Frankenstein, and Creature from the Black Lagoon, Young Frankenstein, The Addams Family, Jekyll & Hyde, Sweeney Todd, and The Phantom of the Opera.

SESSION 2 | June 15–19 | Full Day 8:45-5:30Retro Sci-Fi Horror (1950s–60s)

This session dives into retro science fiction horror—where experiments go wrong, aliens invade, and identities are transformed. Inspired by mid-century sci-fi and campy classics, campers will explore bold storytelling, imaginative worlds, and the consequences of unchecked ambition.

ATOMIC AFTERMATH will pull from Little Shop of Horrors, The Fly, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Bat Boy, Starmites, War of the Worlds, and more.

SESSION 3 | July 6–17 | Mornings 8:45-12:30Comedy & Meta Horror (1980s–90s)

This lighter, laugh-forward session explores horror through parody, self-awareness, and comedy. Campers will break the fourth wall, learn classic horror “rules,” and discover how exaggeration and humor can turn fear into fun.

SCREAM TEST will be inspired by Beetlejuice, Scooby-Doo, Gremlins, Goosebumps, Scream, Buffy, Evil Dead, Zombie Prom, Urinetown, and more.

SESSION 4 | July 20–31 | Mornings 8:45-12:30Dystopian & Information Age (2000s)

Our final session of the summer looks toward the future, exploring dystopian worlds shaped by technology, media, and societal control. Campers will investigate themes of identity, rebellion, fame, and hope while creating powerful film and musical theatre pieces.

DELETE BEFORE MIDNIGHT draws inspiration from Be More Chill, Hadestown, Ride the Cyclone, The Hunger Games (parody), The Matrix, Wall-E, The Maze Runner, Divergent, A Wrinkle in Time, and video game storytelling like Hello Neighbor and Piggy.

A new fine art exhibition titled Culture & Heritage is set to open Saturday, June 27 at Stan Johnson Creative Gallery, with an opening reception held 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. SJC Art Gallery is located at 1747 S. Adams Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32307 and will resume regular exhibition viewings Tuesdays – Saturdays from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. through August 1.

At the reception, visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists and explore thoughtfully curated collection of art that combines African-American culture and heritage through contemporary and traditional art forms.

Featured artists of the Culture & Heritage exhibition are: Richard Powell, from Teaneck, New Jersey, and  Benjamin Bio, from Ghana, Africa.

Richard Powell (professionally known as RA) is an artist and creator from Macon, Georgia who is also a 2023 American Art Awards first-place winner. Powell’s art includes large, colorful and captivating images created with consisting of Prismacolor on Bristol paper, acrylic on canvas and ebony pencil on Bristol paper. Benjamin Bio is a Ghanaian painter based in Tallahassee, Florida, where he is currently pursuing an MFA in Studio Art at Florida State University. He received a BFA in Painting from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana, in 2021. Bio’s practice centers on painting and explores memory, identity, migration, and his experience of navigating life in a new place as a Black African. Working primarily with the figure, he uses his own image and lived experiences to reflect on visibility, presence, and what it means to be seen. Tallahassee Watercolor Society's 2026 Tri-State Annual Juried Water Media Exhibition

Mark your calendars for the opening reception of the Tallahassee Watercolor Society's 2026 Tri-State Annual Juried Water Media Exhibition! Enjoy works by local artists from Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. This year's juror is a nationally renowned watercolor artist and past board director of the American Watercolor Society, Don Andrews. His paintings have received numerous awards, including three awards from the American Watercolor Society and two Best of Show awards from the New England Watercolor Society. Join us for the opening reception for Black Masks Exhibition: A 40 Year Celebration!, a special exhibition honoring Dr. Beth Turner and her extraordinary legacy as the visionary publisher of Black Masks magazine. The exhibition will be on view from June 6 through August 29, 2026, at the Foster Tanner Fine Arts Gallery on the campus of Florida A&M University.

This exhibition commemorates 40 years of Black Masks magazine and its profound impact on the arts community. Visitors will experience a dynamic showcase featuring larger-than-life reproductions of iconic magazine covers, rare archival materials, and highlights from Dr. Turner’s distinguished career. Spanning both floors of the gallery, the exhibition offers an immersive journey through the publication’s history, its celebration of Black artistry, and its enduring influence on creative expression.

A special opening reception and program will take place on Saturday, June 6, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., bringing together artists, scholars, students, and community members to honor Dr. Turner’s contributions. The program will include reflections on her legacy and the cultural significance of Black Masks magazine.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. Community members, students, and visitors are encouraged to attend and experience this landmark celebration of artistic legacy and cultural impact.

Through the Fire brings together the work of Mary Ellen Free and selected regional artists who create through processes shaped by flame, heat, and transformation. Featuring ceramics, glass, metal, and other fire-based mediums, the exhibition explores how artists harness elemental forces to transform raw materials into expressive works of art.

United by the alchemy of fire, these works reveal both technical precision and creative vision, celebrating the ingenuity, craftsmanship, and resilience of artists working across disciplines. Through the Fire honors the enduring power of transformation and the vibrant community of makers throughout our region.

Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit about the Special Services Forces at Camp Gordon Johnston. This exhibit will be on display from Tuesday, July 21 until Saturday, August 29.  The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission, but donations are gladly accepted.

While Camp Gordon Johnston is best known for training infantry divisions in amphibious assault, the camp's mission changed in late 1943 when it became a U.S. Army Special Services Forces Training Center. Thousands of soldiers came to Carrabelle to train in highly specialized support roles that were essential to Allied success overseas. These units prepared to build, repair, supply, and sustain the ports and transportation networks that kept troops and equipment moving throughout the war.

This special exhibit highlights many of these vital units and their unique missions, including Port Companies, Port Construction and Repair Groups, Harbor Craft Companies, Amphibious Truck Companies, specialized Quartermaster units and other specialized units that trained at Camp Gordon Johnston before serving in Europe and the Pacific. Through photographs, artifacts, historical information, and personal stories, visitors will discover how these service members used specialized skills and equipment to support landing forces and combat operations by repairing damaged ports, operating harbor vessels, clearing obstructions, transporting critical supplies, maintaining equipment, providing logistical support, and protecting troops through their skilled operations.

During World War II, Camp Gordon Johnston trained approximately a quarter of a million soldiers. The skills learned on Carrabelle's beaches and throughout the camp prepared not only combat troops but also the specialized support units whose work made every amphibious operation possible. Their contributions were indispensable to Allied victories across both the European and Pacific theaters.

From spooky stories to sci-fi adventures to dramatic end-of-the-world storytelling, our musical theatre camps give students the chance to sing, act, move, and create in a supportive, welcoming environment.

Our camps are intentionally kept small, which can be a great fit for students building confidence, creative kids, and performers who thrive in smaller groups.

Campers may be split into smaller groups or ensembles to work on different musical numbers, scenes, or production elements, ensuring that every participant is engaged and challenged at an appropriate level. All material is carefully selected and adapted to be age-appropriate, with intensity adjusted to suit each group of campers.

Every Musical Theatre Camp concludes with a fully produced performance for friends and family on the final Friday at 4:30pm, complete with costumes, props, and sets—giving campers the thrill of performing in a polished, theatrical showcase.

Whether your child is new to musical theatre or already loves the stage, these camps provide a joyful, creative space to grow, perform, and shine.

The free event offers an opportunity to meet featured artists and explore a dynamic exhibition celebrating the joy, resilience, and creativity of the Big Bend's arts community.

Inspired by the theme "Reflecting Light in Dark Times," the exhibit features a wide range of two- and three-dimensional artwork by local and regional artists, including drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, clay, sculpture, and found-object installations. The exhibition remains on view through August 28, 2026, during regular gallery hours.

Visitors are also invited to attend an Artists' Talk on Thursday, August 6, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., where participating artists will discuss the inspiration, techniques, and stories behind their work.

This 8-week class is designed to teach the fundamentals of working with clay on the potter’s wheel–no prior experience is necessary. Students will learn the process of making pots on the wheel from start to finish including wedging, centering, throwing basic shapes, trimming, and glazing.

Class discussions will include clay, glaze, equipment, safety, tools, and the firing process to provide students with a fuller understanding of the pottery process.

If you are brand new to clay or looking to reinforce your foundational skills, this class is for you.

Experience Level: Beginner/Beginner Plus. No prior clay experience required.

Join David Junker for an evening of pencil sketches and pen and ink drawings.

The Carrabelle History Museum is proud to present a featured exhibit, “Foundations of Freedom - Carrabelle’s Role in America’s Story” made possible by a grant from the Duke Energy Foundation. This exhibit will officially open on Saturday, July 4 and be on display until September 30, with sneak preview opportunities available on July 2 and 3. This unique exhibit, in honor of America’s 250th birthday, tells the story of Carrabelle’s history, independence, democratic participation, and civic identity through artifacts, photographs, and stories. Visitors can explore this exhibit on Wednesdays from 12 to 5 pm ET, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm ET, and Sundays from 12 to 5 pm ET. Admission is free, with donations warmly welcomed.

The exhibit is supported in part through the Duke Energy Foundation’s America250 grant initiative, which helps communities commemorate America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Through this initiative, the Duke Energy Foundation is investing in projects that inspire civic pride, strengthen communities, and celebrate the nation’s history.

Through stories of Carrabelle’s mayors through time along with original artifacts, large-scale historic photographs and interpretive signage, the exhibit highlights how democracy functioned at the grassroots level and showcases civic leadership across generations. This project preserves and displays civic artifacts, provides free access to historical education for residents and visitors, and strengthens civic pride in Carrabelle’s role in America’s democratic journey.

Other highlights of the exhibit include original ballot boxes, paper ballots from 1909 and several periods of the 20th century, 1940s municipal court log books, city clerk journals, and founding documents. These artifacts reveal how citizens voted, resolved disputes, and organized local government, demonstrating how engaged citizens and elected officials helped shape the history of Carrabelle and Florida’s Forgotten Coast. Families and young visitors can also enjoy America250 activities, including patriotic coloring sheets and word searches.

Housed inside Carrabelle’s historic City Hall and using the very room where the justice of the peace, municipal court, city commission, and mayors once governed, the exhibit uses the building itself as both artifact and backdrop. The exhibit brings Carrabelle’s founding story and civic heritage to life inside the room where local democracy unfolded for decades.

Unearth a Week of Adventure with the Summer Reading Program 

The 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Unearth a Story,” wraps up with the final week, July 19-25, at the Franklin County Public Libraries. The week’s free programs will explore stories, science, history, and creativity through interactive experiences inspired by archaeology, dinosaurs, fossils, ancient civilizations, earth science, and America 250. Designed to spark curiosity, inspire exploration, promote literacy, and encourage community engagement for all ages, all programs are open to the public and no library card is required.

In addition, both branches will host a Summer Reading Challenge, America 250 activities and interactive displays including opportunities to track reading goals, attend programs, and earn prizes, participate in patriotic crafts or coloring stations, pick up a pocket Constitution and Declaration of Independence, and enjoy archaeology, dinosaurs, fossils, and exploration themed decorations.
Week Six (July 19 – July 25) at Carrabelle

Wednesday, July 22 – Fossil Making at the Carrabelle Branch at 1 PM. Participants will create their own fossil replicas using clay and natural textures while learning about paleontology and fossil preservation.
Friday, July 24 – Local Trivia Night at the Carrabelle Branch at 5 PM. A fun community trivia event featuring questions about Franklin County history, local landmarks, Florida facts, and community culture.

Also at Eastpoint

Monday, July 20 – Minecraft Archaeology at the Eastpoint Branch at 1 PM. This gaming-inspired program combines Minecraft with archaeology concepts, encouraging participants to explore excavation, discovery, and creativity in a fun digital format.

Thursday, July 23 – Genealogy Basics at the Eastpoint Branch at 2 PM. This introductory genealogy workshop teaches participants how to begin researching family history using library resources, online databases such as Family Search, and historical records.

Summer Reading is an annual program that brings children, teens, and families to local public libraries for reading and activities. The Summer Reading Program encourages lifelong reading, supports reluctant readers, helps children maintain their skills over the summer, promotes use of the library and books, and provides fun opportunities for family time.
