Here are our top six activities to do with kids in the city this summer:
1. Visit the Tallahassee Museum
The Tallahassee Museum immerses you in nature and history, and children can learn about Florida’s diverse wildlife and ecosystems. This outdoor museum has plenty of excitement, from native animals like black bears and red wolves to interactive exhibits displaying the region’s rich cultural heritage. There are even tree-to-tree rope courses with options for all ages, so everyone can join in on the fun! Additionally, with shaded picnic areas, a cozy café, and nature trails, families can spend the entire day exploring. A fee is required for admission with special rates for children and members.
2. Splash Around at Cascades Park
Beat the heat at Cascades Park, Tallahassee’s premier family-friendly outdoor destination. Allow the kids to cool off in the imagination fountain splash pad while parents relax in the shade or take a stroll along the park’s scenic trails. Cascades Park’s playgrounds, picnic areas, and open green spaces provide limitless opportunities for outdoor exploration. Best of all, admission to the park is free, making it a great option for a summer adventure.
3. Explore the Challenger Learning Center
Visit the Challenger Learning Center to spark your child’s interest in science through interactive exhibits and hands-on activities. The Challenger Learning Center provides an out-of-this-world educational experience, with simulated space missions and planetarium shows exploring the wonders of the universe. Or, for a more relaxed experience, go catch the newest movie at the IMAX theatre! All of these activities require an admission fee.
4. Discover Railroad Square Art Park
Get creative at Railroad Square Art Park, Tallahassee’s thriving arts and culture district. Children can explore galleries, studios, and outdoor art installations while their parents shop at local boutiques and thirst stores. Make sure to stop by the Visit Tallahassee gift shop for some exciting memoirs of the day! Railroad Square Art Park is ideal for artistic inspiration and creative expression this summer, with live music events, food trucks, and special family-friendly activities. Admission is free, although some activities may have fees.
Please note that some of the businesses in Railroad Square are temporarily closed due to the tornado that impacted the area in May 2024. However, there are several that are still open, and would greatly appreciate your patronage during this rebuilding period.
5. Take a Trip to the Leon County Public Library
